MES vs ERP — Difference and Integration

Many manufacturers ask: we already have ERP, why MES? This article clarifies the boundary and synergy.

2. Why MES

ERP plans must land on the shop floor, but real status (progress, yield, downtime) is often late or missing in ERP. MES fills the plan-execution gap with real-time capture and feedback.

3. Integration

  • Orders: ERP → MES work orders
  • Material: ERP stock / kitting → MES delivery
  • Results: MES output/yield/labor → ERP cost & schedule
  • Quality: MES results → ERP quality

4. Selection tips

  • Clarify the pain point first
  • Start with a single module (QMS or IoT)
  • Focus on integration and industry templates
